Frank Comando
After Graduating, from Pine Bush High School in 1959, I left
Pine Bush and was off to New York City to start a new life. I
relocated in Brooklyn, NY where I entered and completed 5 years of night school at Charles Evens Hughes Vocational High School.
I graduated as a Master Electrician. I worked in construction days, studied in
school on Tuesday and Thursday night's and I sang on Wednesday, Friday and
Saturday nights
in local NYC night clubs, also opening rock concerts that were broadcast live by WMCA
radio. My singing can be heard on http://www.myspace.com/frankcomando Met
and married my first wife in 1967 when the party ended so did we. I got lucky in "69" when
after appearing in a few locally produced N.Y. plays I acted in my first major film
nothing big, but I did became a
member of the Screen Actors Guild, bouncing around playing various bit parts and
doing extra work I got a lucky break on my first major film, and was
hired as an extra but was chosen as a stand-n double
for Charles Bronson in Lola, directed by John Sturgis, I was also was in
the Valachi Papers. I made great money, and Studied drama with
Lee Strasburg. I became interested in writing while working in a
film called Supercops ( I heard the money was in the millions if you
wrote the screen play) So I
wrote my first an only film Montage, a mystery thriller about murder
and music. I started a film company in '72 with Steven Chakiris, called
Stefrac Productions LLC, and began directing by the seat of my pants, but
differences in casting and the lack of money it ended. After that and
needing money to live I auditioned for Serpico, but
old health problems came back again. I had a seizure during the audition,
and
I couldn't get arrested in the theatrical industry! It caused a loss of my career. I began to hitchhike around and
slept in the streets for two years until I met my second wife, Linda. We
married in 1975 and we have five children. I went on disability for
the next twenty-five years while she nursed me back to health. At age fifty I
began to have good health, as a result of Asian health help and I
was finally able to attend college and graduated in "97" at the age of fifty-four
receiving an AS degree in communications. I began acting and singing again, now and
then. I enjoy life- especially my wife Linda and our five children, and six grand children.
Today we own and run a small weekly periodical newspaper. Linda is the editor and
a fine artist. She is just wonderful. I am learning computer
animation, and I am looking forward to creating a show that I hope will be
purchased by network TV. Our paper is called "Ye Olde Tri-Valley Townsman"
and you can read it on line at http://www.thetownsman.com and
we distribute about one-thousand tabloid size papers, of sixteen pages each
week. If you have something informative to say,
send it to tvtownsman@yahoo.com
and we will consider it for publication, if space allows. My column psuedo name
is Knarf Odnamoc, Gnome, he's a very positive Gnome of 197 years young. Hope all of our young thinking "old"
classmates are well. Stay safe! Bye for now, Frank
